On May 14, three days
after I got here, it was a beautiful evening indeed, and I decided to
drive up to the top of Brockway mountain to see if I could see the
planets and the moon. This is taken from Brockway's nose, looking east,
with Lake Fanny Hooe on the right. Notice the trees are completely bare! |

This is a little more
close-up picture of Copper Harbor. I never get tired of looking at it,
from any angle. My house is not the really white one on the
right. it's the one in the middle, and it's a relief to find that all
you can see is the bedroom, which looks quite big enough. This picture
isn't very well focused, which I found disappointing, but the camera was
acting up. |

Here is Lake Fanny
Hooe, and what turns out to be a man-made pond on the other side of the
road. I'd never seen it before, but I'd never been here before the
leaves came out. |

It was very cold and
windy (under 40º) on top of Brockway, and I
hadn't gone dressed for it, |
|
|
 |
So I only stayed to
take a couple of shots before I threw in the towel. It was a nice
sunset. |
|
|
 |
However, it was nearly
as pretty from my own deck, when I got home. The sun, of course, set
behind the big white pine, but Venus and the moon put on an especially
nice show, |

 |
And I was able to get
a decent telephoto shot, although if I try this often, I will have to
start using a tripod. Blown up, you can see that it's kind of shaky. |
