A View From the Field

The camera came back on June 24, so on the 25th I went outside and checked it out. These are Walter's lilacs, which have been in bloom for a couple of weeks and are now beginning go go. They still smell heavenly.

The wild roses are out, at last! These grow up into the big juniper in the foreground of the first picture. The bees love them, and so do I. It amazes me that such a little, simple flower can put out such an amazing amount of scent.

Here is another rose flower, straight on. I can smell them just looking at the picture.

My wildflower experiment came to nothing, apparently, but around the edges of my "landscaped" space, there are a lot of these. It is a big, coarse plant called hound's tongue, from it's long leaves. The flowers shade from this bluey-purple to dull reddish-purple, sometimes on the same plant. The thing under the flower is a seed head, which is a very interesting thing. By the way, the macro settings seem to be working perfectly. When I enlarged this, I could see the hairs on the bracts.

Oh, yes. Here is Buster's preferred daytime bed. It is the box full of the pictures I haven't hung yet. I threw a towel over it when I left last fall to keep the sun out, and added a fleece throw this spring. I don't know how he can be comfortable, and sometimes he sleeps all curled up with his head below his feet, but who am I to argue with a cat?
