A View From the Field

This painted daisy has been growing south of the driveway in a little hollow for several years, and every year I forget it's there until it blooms. It was probably the only seed from some my mother threw there long ago that ever grew.
   
This is the whazzit of the day. It is growing out of the gravel on the driveway, not far from the painted daisy, and none of my wildflower books show anything like it. The individual flowers somewhat resemble garden phlox, but the rest of the plant doesn't.
   
Here is the first peony. It is really small - only about 3" across, but it looks pretty robust. I think it will make it.
   
Here is the bronze iris. The picture actually makes it look lighter than it does when you look at it. It's a pretty color. All the labels are lost, and Jung isn't selling it this fall, so I will have to check back in my old catalogs to try to identify it.
